Historic Palmer Square Post Office for Triumph Brewing
Princeton, New Jersey

Project Description

Originally Princeton’s main post office, this historic icon of Palmer Square was converted into a restaurant and brewery for Triumph Brewing. MPG performed the historic restoration of the exterior masonry facades in this most ambitious adaptive re-use renovation project. MPG was the Masonry Restoration Subcontractor to the Prime General Contractor. MPG’s contract scope included brick masonry restoration, cleaning, repointing, and unit replacement; parapet reconstruction; sheet metal flashing; marble stone repairs, cleaning, carved dutchman, and unit replacement; cast stone masonry; exterior slate wall panels; patching and repair of interior exposed concrete structure; exterior foundation applied membrane waterproofing; interior crystalline waterproofing; pre-applied under slab waterproofing membranes; unit masonry; helical ties and stabilization; high calcium lime mortars; granite masonry site features (ramps, steps, panels). MPG went to great extents to source matching marble for the project, identifying sources for marble that is no longer actively quarried and matching brick that is no longer in production. The overall project was a 2024 GBCA Award Recipient in the category of Best Adaptive Re-use.
